Mindy Hoʻomanawanui-Sugai
PROPERTY ASSETS DIRECTOR
Mindy is a born and raised Kauaʻi Kanaka ʻŌiwi (Native Hawaiian). She spent her early adulthood in Alaska where she gained nearly decade of property management experience. Mindy has worked in property management since 2013, beginning her career with one of the top 25 property management companies in the US Weidner Apartment Homes. At her first solo management position of 174 units spread over three remote locations, she earned the prestigious Fantastic Four Award for her performance.
Mindy was then promoted to two separate communities totaling 211 units in the heart of the city of Anchorage, Alaska. Managing these two properties she closely interacted with the houseless population as they would frequent the woods backing the buildings, making camps and often seeking warmth in the garages during the cold winter months. She worked with the municipality and other agencies to see how they could help solve this issue. Through this partnership they were able to provide stable housing for three houseless individuals that were a part of the workforce. Two out of three of these individuals successfully graduated from the program and were still housed when she left the company.
Returning home to Hawaiʻi in 2019, she accepted a job with a small startup company Local Local Homes on Hawaiʻi Island that worked with local nonprofits to house the houseless. She helped house countless individuals while working with Hope Services Hawai’i to provide case management. In 2020, she returned home to Kaua’i to be closer to family. Mindy is excited to be aligned with a purpose to better the community and island that she grew up on for future generations.
